AFL legend Matthew Lloyd has revealed how an off-the-cuff comment on The Footy Show once left him fearing for his safety on the field. Lloyd was in his early playing days with Essendon in the mid-1990s when he declared to TV host Eddie McGuire on a Thursday night - 'if Richo [Richmond great Matthew Richardson] plays we will go after that [injured] shoulder.' He soon realised the error of his ways - and the Bombers full-forward didn't sleep that night.

He hasn't played a game of football since round 21 last year, but Tigers great Dustin Martin looked like he could claim a spot on any AFL side when he was spotted in Melbourne last week. The former Richmond star was photographed getting lunch with ex-teammate Dion Prestia at Gilson restaurant in South Yarra, both of them looking relaxed in casual attire. The 33-year-old retired from the AFL last year following a decorated career with Richmond that included three premierships.

The historic 150th anniversary Ashes Test at the MCG in 2027 will be staged as a day-night match. Long locked in for March 11-15, Cricket Australia confirmed - exactly two years out - Australia's one-off match against England would be the first men's pink-ball Test at the venue. Remarkably, the first Test in 1877 and the Centenary Test in 1977 both resulted in Australia winning by 45 runs. CA insisted staging the Test as a day-night match would allow bigger crowds to attend, given it will be played in March, outside of the school holiday period.
